The Green Schools is an initiative set up by An Taisce to encourage students in schools all around Ireland to take responsibility for the environment around them. More than 90% of primary and secondary schools in Ireland are involved in the Green Schools programme with many third level institutes also involved.

St Joseph's have achieved 3 green flags over the past number of years! We have a committee who promote green school initiatives in the school. 

We are looking at reviewing our recycling and look at energy Saving Tips over the coming year. Here are some tips around energy saving :

- Make draft excluders
- Switch off lights
- Have a low energy day
- Do not block or cover radiators
- Turn off electrical appliances rather than leaving them on stand by
- Close blinds at night
- Keep doors closed
- Light Monitors
